Orb disappoints as Oxbow wins Preakness Comeback king Gary Stevens steered Oxbow to victory in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico as Kentucky Derby winner Orb disappointed. Orb was sent off the 3-5 favourite by local punters after his victory at Churchill Downs but he was struggling from a long way out and could never land a blow. So it was left to Stevens to steal the headlines as he guided Oxbow, only sixth behind Orb in the Kentucky Derby, to a comfortable success. Itsmyluckyday looked like he might land the spoils turning for home but he had to settle for second under Johnny Velazquez while Mylute was third under Rosie Napravnik. Stevens said afterwards on the NBC telecast: "When we hit the half-mile pole, I said, 'Are you kidding me.' I just walked the dog." Orb rallied for fourth in the end and trainer Shug McGaughey said: "I thought we were laying in a good position. The pace was slower than I really anticipated. [Joel Rosario] said he took him down on the inside there, and he was never really comfortable when he got down in there."
