Orcadian On Cup Trail

Orcadian is likely to make a quick reappearance in Friday's Group Two Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup at York after his narrow defeat at Chester last week.

The five-year-old threw away his chance of victory in the Ormonde Stakes by pulling himself up with half a mile to run, only to cruise past his rivals once more before losing out to The Whistling Teal in the final strides.

However, trainer James Eustace says that despite those antics his charge has proved he is in the form of his life.

'I think he will almost certainly run on Friday,' said the Newmarket-based handler. 'The rain in Yorkshire at the minute is what has made our minds up really.

'He's in the Braveheart Stakes at Hamilton as well but it (the ground) looks a fair bit quicker up there so I think we'll have a go at York and we'll see what he does there.

'It was frustrating that he didn't win at Chester but in a way it was nearly his best ever run.

'For whatever reason he just doesn't seem to like making the running anymore. He was always a natural front-runner but now he doesn't seem to take his jockey anywhere.

'I think going hurdling could have changed him so I think we'll ride him a bit differently now.'
