Orthodox ruled out of Prix Robert Papin Clive Cox has ruled his runaway Royal Ascot winner Orthodox out of Sunday’s Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly due to an unsatisfactory scope. Impressive on his Salisbury debut in May, the Havana Grey colt successfully stepped up in class when registering a brilliant victory in the Norfolk Stakes at the Royal meeting last month. Cox had been targeting this weekend’s Group Two prize at Chantilly as a stepping stone to the Prix Morny at Deauville, having completed the same double with Reckless Abandon in 2012, but he will now not be lining up in France on Sunday. “I’m really sorry but he didn’t scope great this morning, so we’re not going to be confirming him,” the Lambourn handler the Press Association. “We’ll get that sorted. It’s just one of those unfortunate things. Generally the yard is in excellent form, but I’m afraid he didn’t scope well this morning.” Cox is still hoping his star juvenile will be ready to run in the Prix Morny on August 23, adding: “That would be the plan.”
