Jamie Osborne could look at a return to Ascot for the Shergar Cup with Amazing Journey as the rapidly-improving three-year-old appears highly unlikely to get a run in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood on Saturday.

The Lambourn trainer said he has left the three-year-old in Goodwood’s prestigious sprint handicap at the five-day stage just in case “some miracle occurred”.

But with the gelding well down the order of entry following the confirmation stage, Osborne is instead plotting another trip back to Berkshire for a valuable pot on August 8.

He said: “He has come out of the race fine and we could go pot hunting in the Shergar Cup for £80,000 a week on Saturday for a 10-runner six-furlong three-year-old handicap. He would be short enough (in the betting) for that wouldn’t he?

“It is a shame we won’t get in the Stewards’ Cup but it was always going to be close to impossible to get him in there. We have left him in in case some miracle occurred, but it looks like it’s not going to now.”

Ascot Victory Prompts Shergar Cup Consideration

Amazing Journey was a well supported 4-1 shot for the Moet and Chandon International Handicap at Ascot last Saturday, winning comfortably under the trainer’s daughter Saffie.

“He didn’t have to hit top gear to win did he? And to be honest he was having a bit of a laugh when he hit the front,” Osborne added.

“He is clearly a very good horse and there are any number of ways we could play him going forward.

“Ascot offers one possibility but it could be we just take our time with him. Either way there is no doubt he is improving rapidly.”
