Ottoman Style got favourite backers off to a winning start at Downpatrick this afternoon when scoring for John McConnell and Thomas Reilly.

The Kayf Tara gelding had been fourth on his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse last month and went to post 2/1 market leader this afternoon.

Reilly tracked the leaders on his mount before letting him dispute after the third last flight.

Ottoman Style edged ahead at the penultimate flight and found plenty when asked for an effort on the run-in to record a two-and-a-quarter length win over The Flier Begley

McConnell said: "A lovely big horse. He had a promising first run and had come on from it.

"He likes nice ground and obviously he will make a nice chaser, he jumps really well. Whatever he does over hurdles is a bonus because he will be a better chaser.

"We might see him in the UK for a novice hurdle shortly. That will probably be the plan."
