Overturn wins Chester Cup

Last year's Galway Hurdle winner Overturn made every yard of the running to win the totesport.com Chester Cup.

Donald McCain's stable stalwart landed a prime draw in stall one and Eddie Ahern took full advantage.

Tastahil sat in his slipstream throughout but as the tempo increased with half-a-mile to go he was in trouble.

Overturn continued to pour it on from the from the front, the 11-2 chance coasting home a length-and-three-quarters clear of his contant pursuer.

Mystery Star (50-1) ran a huge race in third with Mount Athos (9-1) making late headway to claim fourth.

McCain said: "He's a fantastic little horse. He's an absolute joy. "I said to Eddie beforehand we'd have a right good stab at it and if it doesn't come off it doesn't.

"It all looked simple, although it's not. On his day he's a hell of a horse to pass.

"It's great to come here. As a boy I grew up watching the likes of Sea Pigeon win this and dreamed of having a winner here.

"I'm not really sure what to do next, we'll look at the Northumberland Plate again and also the Galway Hurdle, although the worry with that is he will have an awful lot of weight."
