Oxx has Zand plan

John Oxx is keeping the faith in his former promising juvenile Zand following his disappointing return to action at the Curragh in early June.

Impressive on his second juvenile appearance at Leopardstown, the three-year-old's return to action this year was continually delayed due to an interrupted preparation.

When he did eventually make his comeback, he finished a well-beaten sixth in the Silver Stakes - albeit behind subsequent Irish Derby winner, Trading Leather.

Oxx is hopeful Zand's problems are now behind him and that he can begin to fulfil his potential.

"He had a difficult spring with one or two little issues and then we ran him back and he didn't move at all well during the race," said the Currabeg handler.

"I'm much happier with him now, he's moving and working nicely and hopefully we can press on with him now.

"He could run in something like the Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh (August 11) if he's ready, or later on there is a Group race on Irish Champion Stakes day (KPMG Enterprise Stakes, September 7), which is his main aim.

"He didn't look like he handled the fast ground on his last run, but I think he will act on it in time.

"Hopefully now his problems are behind him and only time will tell how good he is. He hasn't had the chance to prove it yet."
