It's time for the second Major of the season this week, with the world's leading players descending upon Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the 107th PGA Championship.

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy claimed the first Major of the year at Augusta National, his Masters success also seeing him complete the Grand Slam, and the four-time Quail Hollow winner could be tough to beat.

Quail Hollow is a beast of a course at 7,626 yards and the bigger hitters have thrived at this venue over the years, so it seems sensible to side with players that give it a good rip with the driver.

Rory McIlroy certainly falls in this category, as he ranks third in driving distance on the PGA Tour this season, and he was unrivalled in DD when winning the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship at this course.

That victory was one of four that the world number two has picked up at the North Carolina layout, having also triumphed in 2010, 2015 and 2021, and no player has enjoyed more success around this course than the Northern Irishman.

McIlroy, who is first in strokes gained off-the-tee and second in both SG tee-to-green and total warmed up for this with a tied-seventh finish at last week's Truist Championship.

A model of consistency with his worst finish this season, a T17 at the Genesis Invitational, McIlroy will fancy his chances of landing the second Major of the year and keep him on track for a possible calendar Grand Slam.

    Aussie to break Major duck

Another power hitter on tour is Australian Min Woo Lee, who is fourth in driving distance and looks capable of improving his Major record with a T5 at the 2023 US Open his best result.

The 26-year-old made his PGA Tour breakthrough when winning the Houston Open in March and although his form has dipped since then, he still looks overpriced and can impose himself in Charlotte.

Lee has also been rolling the rock well on the greens - he ranks 11th in strokes gained putting - and it would not be a surprise to see him take to this course on his debut.

Reed to enjoy Quail Hollow return

There will be a strong contingent of LIV players in the field this week and one individual who could get himself in the mix is Patrick Reed, who showed he hasn't lost a step when finishing third at the Masters last month.

The American was tied-fourth in LIV Korea last time out, following on from a top-10 finish in Miami and a T17 in Mexico City, and his confidence will be high heading to a course he has impressed at before.

Reed was tied second at Quail Hollow in the 2017 PGA Championship, ending up two strokes behind champion Justin Thomas, and he has registered top-10 results in two of his subsequent three appearances at the venue.
