PLUMPTON LOST

British track Plumpton today lost its battle with the weather.

A rise in temperatures meant there was no problem from the frost and snow which had beset the track in recent days.

But overnight rain caused waterlogging and put paid to this afternoon`s fixture.

'We had 35mm of rain overnight,' said clerk of the course David McHarg.

'The stewards inspected the track, found it was waterlogged in parts and abandoned the meeting.'

Four races from Plumpton were due to be shown on Channel 4, which will instead broadcast a half-hour programme of highlights from Leopardstown starting at 1.25pm.

It has been a sorry 48 hours for McHarg as Plumpton`s sister track Fontwell, where he is also clerk, lost a televised meeting on Saturday due to frost.
