POWELL STARTS NEW CAREER

Brendan Powell starts his new career as a trainer today when he sends out his first runner, Little Elk at Newton Abbot.

The Grand National-winning jockey has had his training establishment at Twyford near Winchester up and running for two months now, having retired from race-riding in June.

There was no fairytale finish in the saddle for 39-year-old Powell, who was third on his final mount at Hereford, and he is no more than hopeful that Little Elk can give him a flying start as a trainer.
