Paddy Hanlon Pays Tribute To 'Horse Of A Lifetime' Hewick Jockey Paddy Hanlon, who enjoyed some of the finest days of his early career aboard Hewick, paid an emotional tribute following the popular 11-year-old's retirement after he finished third in the Brewin Dolphin Hurdle at Cork on Friday. Hewick has received an outpouring of support and praise since the announcement, with racing fans around the world reflecting on his remarkable career that included memorable victories in the King George VI Chase, the American Grand National and the Galway Plate. Speaking after the race Hanlon said ""Horse of a lifetime he was. King George, Galway Plate, American National, Bet365. Was going to win a Kerry National. He's been unbelievable for us, for the yard; everyone's loved him. He's just such an honest horse. All the way throughout his career, he tried his heart out. "It's just the right time for him(retirement). He could have went another season but I think the times right now. He's gone out on a place. The horse owes us nothing; he's won over seven hundred thousand in prize money for us. "We've had him since a two-year-old. He's grown up around the yard and, he knows the people at home. The biggest pet of all time. Riding him out, you just throw the reins at him, he could go around loose on the gallop at home. I think he's just been unbelievable for everyone involved."
