Pady in good shape for Chandler test Tom Cooper reports Forpadydeplasterer in good form ahead of the 25th Anniversary of The Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot tomorrow. The 2009 Arkle hero has returned to form recently after two trips to Kempton for the rearranged King George last season took their toll. Tralee based Cooper has been delighted with him since chasing home Big Zeb on his last two runs and, although without a win since his Cheltenham Festival success, most of his runs have been on unsuitably soft ground. "He had to make his own running last time which doesn't suit him. Hopefully on Saturday we'll get a lead. To be tucked in is all that he really wants. Ascot is a very fair track and I think it will really suit him. The ground is one of the major factors why we are going over there with him," Cooper said. Gauvain has recaptured his best this season, winning at Cheltenham and landing the Peterborough Chase in taking fashion last time out. After the win of stablemate Swincombe Flame last weekend, his trainer Nick Williams is aiming for a swift big-race double. "He had a very nice win at Cheltenham and then he went on to the Peterborough at Huntingdon and put up a good performance that day," jockey Noel Fehily told At The Races. "He beat Somersby very comfortably and is one of those horses who, if he's on a going day, can run a big race. I think it will be a strongly-run race which will suit him and he will be finishing as well as anything. I'd be hopeful of a big run and he has a great chance of being in the money." Henrietta Knight's Somersby was beaten just a short-head by Master Minded in the race 12 months ago and the Wantage handler is hoping for a reproduction of that level of performance. "He's in very good form and his preparation has all gone very well. He ran well in this race last year and has run well at Ascot a few times, so the track obviously suits him well. If he can run the same as he did last year, he's going to go very close isn't he?" said Knight. "It's a very open race. Finian's Rainbow is the one to beat and Wishfull Thinking will be a big danger if his breathing and everything is right. Gauvain seems to be really coming back to himself and the Irish horse is obviously top-class, so it should be a very good race."
