The Jennie Candlish-trained Party Rock landed a huge gamble when running away with the Chisholm Bookmakers Supporting Bernie's Bolt Handicap Hurdle at Newcastle today.

The ex-Irish runner was available at 13/2 in the morning, having been well beaten on his last two appearances, but was backed at all rates down to 11/10 favourite.

There was one heart-stopping moment as he fluffed his lines at the final flight, but Sean Quinlan's mount got away with it to seal a 10-length verdict over King's Chorister.

Referring to the gamble, Candlish said: "It definitely wasn't my money.

"To be fair, he ran well on his first run for us when he was third at Doncaster and although he was disappointing at Warwick next time, that was probably my fault as I think I ran him back too quickly.

"He probably didn't get up the hill as well as we hoped at Towcester last time and my horses are just coming back to form.

"We won't get carried away as it wasn't a great race - it wasn't much better than a seller."
