Pathfork in good shape Pathfork, second favourite for the Qipco 2000 Guineas, is reported right on course for the first classic of the season by trainer Jessica Harrington, who held an owners and press open day at her yard in Moone, Co. Kildare this morning. The American-bred colt was unbeaten in three outings all at the Curragh last year culminating in a Group 1 success in the boylesports.com Vincent O'Brien National Stakes. “He's the most relaxed horse, with a wonderful temperment. He's developed well over the winter and done everything right but is so laid back we have to give him plenty of work.. It's just a question of getting him to Newmarket now healthy and well, and in the right frame of mind,” said Mrs Harrington. She added: “This is breaking new territory for me. It's exciting but also a little bit terrifying. He's been a wonderful horse for us, and and gave us our first Group 1 winner last season.” Jockey Fran Berry was also on hand, and is equally impressed by the colt's attitude. “He's got a remarkable temperment really, a bit like an old hack. It's a great way to be.” “The ground didn't really suit him in the National Stakes but the second (Casamento) has franked the form since. I was much more impressed with him on fast ground in the Futurity Stakes. That was his best run for me.” Berry continued: “He was only a shell of a horse last year, and has thickened out well. He has great balance and should handle the downhill run at Newmarket okay but I suppose you never really know until they run there.” Alan Magee
