Miss Penny Pincher sprang a 66/1 shock in the second divison of the bumper at Roscommon.

Roger Quinlan tracked the leader on the Presenting mare before taking up the running turning for home.

Des McDonogh 's charge soon had her rivals at work and she stuck her head out gamely in the closing stages to hold the final furlong charge of 33/1 shot Deep Trouble by neck.

The winner was having her third run this month and had shown only glimpes of ability on her two previous outings.

It was a first winner in just over a year for McDonogh, who trains the mare for Barry Geraghty's brother Norman, and he said:-

"She was left an awful long way on her debut at Ballinrobe and didn't travel at all in Kilbeggan," explained McDonogh.

"She loved the extra half mile today. She's well bred and will probably go hurdling now.

"That gets me off the dreaded cold list!" Clara Bel La proved the one for money (5/1 in morning into 2/1 favourite) but could only finish eighth. She was reported to be coughing post race.
