State Pension justified his short price when running out an easy winner of the Gavinlynchracing.com Maiden Hurdle at Fairyhouse.

The Harry Kelly-trained gelding went to post a 4/11 shot having been third on his hurdling debut at Navan last month.

Cian Quirke tracked the leaders on the hotpot before moving up to dispute at halfway.

The Diamond Boy gelding went on after the third last and the result never looked in doubt over the last couple of flights as he posted a cosy four-and-a-half length win.

Midtown Manhattan won the scrap for the second, by a neck from Farney Bridge .

“I'm delighted for Alistair (Spittal) and Lorraine who are over from Scotland today. They have two horses with me,” said Kelly.

“I'm delighted for the horse as well because he's a horse that we like a lot.

“He's still a big baby but there is a big engine there and it's only slowly coming to hand. He's maturing all the time.

“He's still green and he looks at things.

“Fair play to Jim Nolan who picked out this horse as a foal. He's a serious judge of a horse.”
