Petrol Head motored home between horses to get up in the closing stages of the 80-102 handicap hurdle over two and a half miles in Fairyhouse.

The five year old gelding was making his handicap debut on his second start for trainer Ronan McNally.

Despite the long string of 'duck eggs' beside his name, bookmakers had him as short as 7/4 this morning. He opened at 13/2 and drifted right out to 11/1.

The Valirann gelding moved into contention in third at the last and was driven between Shantou Lucky and Shantou Warrior to get off the mark.

He beat Shantou Warrior (7/1 - 5/1) by half a length. The leader Shantou Lucky (14/1 - 9/1) dropped to third, beaten a length by the winner.

Petrol Head ran 10 times for David Dunne before switching to McNally.
