Pierce Molony passes away

Thurles owner and manager Pierce Molony passed away last night after a long battle with illness.

Molony leaves behind wife Riona and his four daughters Patricia, Helen, AnneMarie and Kate.

Racing is due to take place at the track tomorrow.

Horse Racing Ireland Chief Executive Brian Kavanagh was one of the first to pay tribute tweeting:-

"RIP Pierce Molony, Thurles Racecourse, who passed away overnight. A gentleman. Deepest sympathies to Riona & family."
