Following on from the opening two races, the Dermot Weld trained Pierre Royal was another winner to make virtually all the running when justifying favouritism in the INPBA Sponsored Gate June 2nd Maiden at Gowran Park.

Runner-up over course and distance on his racecourse debut earlier this month, the colt broke smartly and soon led under Chris Hayes.

Strongly pressed by the experienced Bishopton entering the straight, the 4/9f asserted inside the final furlong to run out an impressive three-and-three quarter length winner.

Bishopton kept on well for minor honours with Rainbow Sorbet back in third.

Dermot Weld said: “He ran well here the last day and reproduced that again today. That’s all he needed to do.

“The one draw was helpful, and the ground is beautiful. He did what we hoped he’d do.”
