Pike backed for National

Paris Pike has been backed today from 25-1 to 16-1 with Coral to land next year`s Martell Grand National.

The move follows an encouraging return to action by the Ivan Straker-owned nine-year-old at Kelso on Monday.

Trainer Ferdy Murphy confirmed today that a final decision over Paris Pike`s Christmas target is yet to be made.

The gelding could take in either the Pertemps King George VI Chase at Kempton Park or the Ericsson Chase at Leopardstown.

Murphy told the Racing Channel: 'Major Straker is coming to see the horse later this week and we will talk over what our plans are.

'The major has friends in Ireland which might sway us towards that race but no decision is going to be made yet.'
