Pistol outguns them

Pistol Jack could be called the winner from a good bit out in the handicap chase at Kilbeggan and duly did the business.

Bryan Cooper sent his mount into the lead at the final fence and he soon had matters in hand.

Dessie Hughes' charge kept on strongly in the closing stages to post a two-and-a-half length winning margin over Carheenlea

He was sent off 10/3 joint favourite with The Baler who never travelled and was pulled up after the fifth last.

"I was a bit suspect about the ground but he handled it," said Hughes.

"The day he won his maiden hurdle at Down Royal it rained all day and was soft.

"I think he's better on good ground but Bryan said he moved well on it today. He travelled well and jumped well. We'll keep him going for the summer."
