Plans fluid for Biographer

David Lanigan will see how Biographer is when he returns from an unsuccessful trip to Ireland before making any plans for the stayer.

The Lambourn trainer's first instinct is that the ground at Navan was too fast for the six-year-old, who never got into contention when seventh of eight to Forgotten Rules in the Vintage Crop Stakes.

Biographer had only been beaten one and three-quarter lengths by the Dermot Weld-trained ante-post favourite for the Ascot Gold Cup when they met in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at the Berkshire track in October.

Lanigan's charge still holds an entry in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on June 18.

"I've not seen him as he's not back yet, but he seems OK. The ground was probably a little quick for him," he said.

Lanigan introduced a promising three-year-old gelding Mitchum Swagger to score on his debut in a seven-furlong maiden at Newbury on Friday.

He will await the assessment of the handicapper on Tuesday before making his next move.
