Plate crowd down by 20 per cent Attendance was again down on day-three of the Galway Festival as the Plate crowd fell by almost 20 per cent on last year. 20,740 passed through the turnstiles as opposed to a figure of 25,537 for 2008. The Tote aggregate also saw a fall of around 20 per cent with 1,044,183 bet this year as opposed to 1,294,499 in 2008. The Bookmakers' takings fell by almost €750,000 to €2,542,174. The 2008 figure was €3,288,446.
