Playapart misses Epsom date

Vodafone Derby outsider Playapart will miss the premier classic at Epsom on Saturday week following a disappointing run at Goodwood.

It is thought that the Gerald Butler-trained colt swallowed his tongue when finishing tailed off last of six to Coshocton in the Letheby & Christopher Predominate Stakes last week.

'We have decided not to run him. He needs just that little bit longer and probably we`ll be looking towards Royal Ascot,' Valerie Griffiths, a director of owners Hesmonds Stud, said today.

'It looks quite a hot Derby.

'We think he just swallowed his tongue. He`s been tested, scoped and everything and it`s all clean. It wasn`t his running at Goodwood.

'We are taking it easy with him and starting work with him shortly.'

He had looked a useful three-year-old when winning the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket in April and when third to Sohaib in the Philip Leverhulme Dee Stakes at Chester.

Playapart, whose Royal Ascot target is the King Edward VII Stakes on June 21st, had been a 50-1 chance with William Hill.
