Plenty of Irish interest in the UK this afternoon Despite the unfortunate cancellation of Listowel this afternoon there is plenty of Irish interest in the UK today with four Irish in action. The first of the Irish in action is the David Nagle trained Maarek who will compete in the William Hill Silver Cup Handicap over six furlongs at 2:15 at Ayr. The 4yo son of Pivotal has been on the go since March and from his eleven starts he has managed two victories, winning at Navan in April over six furlongs and at the Curragh over five furlongs in June. He disappointed on his last start at Dundalk finishing well behind Below Zero but is not without his chance today and has been installed at 25/1 with Paddy Powers. Liam McAteer's Croisultan is the only Irish representative in the feature race on the card the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup at 3:20. The gelded son of Refuse to Bend was last seen finishing a good third to Bewitched in the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh last weekend and a reproduction of that run should see him go close. Niall McCullagh takes the ride this afternoon on the 5yo and he has been installed co second favourite of three at 12/1. Another interesting runner in the field is the Mark Johnston trained Below Zero who won on his two trips over here most notably at Leopardstown on his penultimate start. He since disappointed at Doncaster but carrying a handy weight of just 8-13 today and with Fran Berry booked to ride the son of Shamardal is worth an each-way punt considering his current price of 28/1. Meanwhile at Newmarket Alkazim for David Wachman and Wayne Lordan will bid for glory in the feature race at 2:55, the 200,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Trophy. The son of Holy Roman Emperor has finished second on his three starts to date at Limerick, Killarney and Cork respectively. Three time winner Coupe de Ville for Richard Hannon has been installed the 3/1 favourite for the seven furlong contest with Alkazim not without his chance at 12/1.
