Poet's Word could have a say in Newmarket The Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket is a potential next port of call for Poet's Word following his tremendous effort in defeat at Meydan on Saturday. Runner-up in both the Irish Champion and the Champion Stakes last season, Sir Michael Stoute's charge finished a slightly disappointing sixth on his final outing of 2017 in the Hong Kong Cup. However, he showed his true colours in the Dubai Sheema Classic, filling the runner-up spot behind Hawkbill and connections are looking forward to the rest of his campaign. Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail, said: "He ran a very nice race. Frankie (Dettori) said he thought he had the winner covered but then he just sprinted away. "He showed he stays very well. I think a mile and a half is his trip and he might stay even further. "He's coming back home today so we'll see what sort of shape he's in. "I wouldn't like to suggest where he might go next. The Jockey Club Stakes (May 5) would look an obvious race for him, but we'll see how the horse is and what Sir Michael thinks."
