Runner-up on his latest start, the Robert Tyner trained Poets Oath went one better when landing a tidy gamble to win the William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series Handicap Hurdle at Cork.

Having found just one too good at Punchestown last month, The Big Bamboo Partnership owned gelding was supported from 9/1 into 3/1f to step up a place under Phillip Enright.

Making ground on the heels of the leaders with three to jump, Poets Oath closed on Gino Bella before an untidy jump at the penultimate flight put him on the back foot.

However, with Enright conjuring up a strong late run from the five-year-old, the partnership got up close home to score by a neck.

“It was good, he battled well. He got under the second last a bit and Phillip said he got under the last too. It just made it a bit harder for him and he just got there,” said Tyner.

“He was just beat the last day and maybe the more galloping course might have helped him. It was longer the last day but it was on the inside track at Punchestown and it’s tight.

“I took a chance going there with the longer trip.”

When asked if he’d keep going for the summer he added:- “No, he needs a bit of a dig in it.”
