Polished Rock looks a nice dual-purpose sort for the summer after opening his account over hurdles in the Holden Plant Rentals Hurdle at Gowran Park.

The Rock Of Gibraltar gelding, twice a winner on the Flat, led at the penultimate flight and kept on well under pressure for Robbie Power to score by just over two lengths. Mizyen held off the odds-on The Plan Man for the runner-up spot.

Winning trainer Jessica Harrington said, “They went very quick at Tipperary (first run over hurdles) and it was a case of oh my God whats happening? He jumps very well and loves good ground.

“He’ll mix it and will probably go to the Curragh next weekend where he could run over 1m2f, 1m4f or two miles. The four-year-old hurdle at Galway is also a possibility unless Kate gets her way and he goes for the amateur handicap!”
