Robbie Power enjoyed a profitable first visit to Newton Abbot after riding a double for trainer Colin Tizzard.

The leading Irish rider is likely to be seen on British soil more frequently this season having signed up to be retained rider for owner Alan Potts, for whom he steered Sizing John to victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup last March.

Power's first ride of the day was not in the Potts colours.

Drinks Interval was a 5-2 chance for the opening PKF Francis Clark Mares' Novices' Hurdle and picked up well from the final flight to score by two and three-quarter lengths from 8-13 favourite Green Or Black.

The jockey was out of luck aboard Mick Thonic and Quiz Master, but was back in the winner's enclosure after the Potts-owned Sizing Platinum sauntered to a 14-length success in the Book Kuoni At Peter Goord Travel Handicap Chase.

Of the latter, Power said: "He was super. We got a soft time in front, I was able to dictate and he jumped from fence to fence.

"He's been prone to making the odd mistake, but today he got it right.

"He galloped away in that ground. He's a big strong boy now."

Power's final ride of the day Waterloo Warrior finished a well-beaten fourth.
