Power retains faith in Sunny South West

Trainer Eddie Power believes that his stable star Sunny South West is better than he showed on his most recent start at Ballinrobe. Sent off market leader on that occasion, the gelding could only finish sixth of the eight runners.

An impressive winner on his hurdling debut at Cork previously, the dual bumper winner was expected to maintain his progression at the County Mayo venue.

Considered smart enough to contest the Grade 1 bumper at Punchestown( finished fifth) in April, the five-year-old remains an exciting prospect.

Power said: "He disappointed in Ballinrobe but there were a few reasons behind it and he won't be back until this side of Listowel, although we are hoping for a good winter with him.

"It was a quick run before Ballinrobe but he likes to run quite regularly and we put a lot of schooling races into him in between runs, as he gets too hot. At Ballinrobe he almost blew a gasket and everything went wrong for him.

"On top of that, we thought we had a lung infection cleared up in time before Galway but he was a non-runner on the day, as he was still letting out a couple of coughs and scoped dirty.

"We have decided to give him a break as he is in a good while."
