Tomorrow’s meeting at Punchestown will need to pass a 7.30am inspection with the prospect of heavy rain and high winds forecast for the County Kildare venue.

Clerk of the Course Brendan Sheridan gave an update this afternoon saying, “Ahead of racing at Punchestown tomorrow, the ground is now heavy on both tracks following a further 10mm of rain since declarations.

“We have spoken with Met Eireann this afternoon and there is further rain developing in the area later tonight and into tomorrow with the possibility of up to 20mm forecast.

“With the chance of that much rain on top of the rain we’ve had already over the last week, there will be a 7.30am inspection to determine if racing can go ahead.

“The track is fit for racing and it will take some more rain, but with that volume of rain forecast an inspection is necessary.

“Furthermore, we are aware of a Status Yellow wind warning in place from Met Eireann which could bring strong gusts tomorrow afternoon.

“Should we pass our initial inspection tomorrow morning, we will continue to speak with Met Eireann throughout the day and monitor the situation regarding the winds.”

The eight-race card is scheduled to commence at 11.50am.
