Prince To Head Straight For Guineas

Strategic Prince will head straight for the Stan James 2000 Guineas without a prep run.

Last season's Vintage Stakes winner is reported to have done well physically over the winter with Paul Cole in the process of gradually taking off some of the 60 kilograms he gained.

Strategic Prince, 12-1 joint-third favourite for the 2000 Guineas with the sponsors, was in customary sprightly form when paraded in front of the media at Whatcombe.

'Strategic Prince looks wonderful and my thinking is that as his family stayed we are looking at the Derby as well as the Guineas for him,' Cole said.

'The slight blot over the Derby is that he has tremendous speed but as far as the Guineas is concerned, he's certain to get the trip.

'Between the ages of two and three there is the prospect of him being more relaxed, and if that's the case, I won't be complaining.

'After the mild winter we are more forward with the horses and the Sultan is happy with Eddie Ahern, who will ride the colt in the Guineas.

'The horse hasn't developed all that much but he's put on a lot of weight which we're edging off him at the moment.

'He looks fantastic and is moving really well.'
