There was no fluke about Karl Des Tourelles 100/1 success in Gowran's opening Sea Moon & Jukebox Jury At Burgage Stud Maiden Hurdle today, as the Philip Fenton-trained newcomer won well in testing ground against experienced rivals.

Held up mid-division under Brian Hayes, the French-bred son of winning hurdler Choeur Du Nord made eye-catching headway entering the straight and while twice bumped by runner-up Pigeon House approaching the last, won going away by six lengths.

Fenton reported “we had no great expectations coming here with his lack of experience but he looks a nice horse. He never ran in a schooling hurdle so probably has a bright future.

“Most of the others had either run on the Flat or over hurdles and it came easy enough to him and won well in the end.

“We might look at Punchestown now and see how that goes.”
