Promising youngsters at Pierce family nursery Speedalong and All Currencies, both graduates from the Pierce family nursery in County Wexford, scored in Britain last week and a slight change in direction could see more to come from the Enniscorthy operation. "It's only in the last few years that we've bought a few at the sales. Before that we were just training horses that were bred here, and that didn't get sold on," explained Paul Pierce. The Blackhall Stud team are now looking forward to the spring, with Pierce revealing: "We have a few four-year-olds that we've bought in and there are some nice types there. "We've got a couple of Germanys, a Spanish Moon, a couple of Stowaways, a Milan and there are others there, too. "We had a Stowaway mare, Princess Of China (now with Willie Mullins), that won in Oldtown last year on her first run. "We thought a bit of her. She'd be a real galloper - an out-and-out stayer. "There's a Stowaway with us now this year out of the four-time track winner Odonimee. She's a bit backward and a bit weak, but hopefully we'll get there with her by the end of the season. She's a lovely sort, we really like her. "We haven't asked much of her yet but she's doing everything lovely, she jumps well and she's got a great temperament." A daughter of Pierce's 2008 Punchestown Festival winner Here Comes Sally had been engaged at Dungarvan point-to-point this weekend. Unfortunately that meeting had to be postponed until next Sunday so Here Comes Maggie will have to wait a little longer for her first taste of competitive action.
