Prosser Very Pleased With Newmarket Ground Newmarket´s Clerk of the Course, Michael Prosser, remains delighted with the state of the ground on the July Course prior to the start of Newmarket´s most important summer meeting, the #1.28m Ritz Club July Festival. The going is GOOD-TO-FIRM with 3mm-5mm of rain expected to fall tonight.'I couldn´t be happier with the track and, bearing in mind that temperatures could hit a peak of 27 degrees by the latter part of the week, I aim to have it just on the good side of Good-to-Firm for the opening day on Wednesday ,' explained Prosser this afternoon. 'If we don´t get the rain tonight, then I´ll be ready to water tomorrow if I think it needs it.'We will be racing on the far side of the track, on ground that hasn´t been raced on since last August. There´s a wonderful covering of grass and everything is in place for three cracking days of racing.'Takeover Target Works On The TrackTakeover Target, last month´s King´s Stand Stakes victor and one of the three Australian challengers for Europe´s richest sprint, the #360,000 Darley July Cup, will have his final look at the July Course tomorrow as he gears up for the big race on Friday. Joe and Ben Janiak´s gelding is expected to arrive at the track at about 7.00am.
