Punchestown inspection

The Turf Club has called an 8am precautionary course inspection at Punchestown ahead of the scheduled fixture on Saturday, 14th January due to the threat of overnight frost.

The Co. Kildare course is currently raceable with the ground described as soft to heavy, heavy in places on the hurdle track and heavy on the steeplechase course.

Punchestown's racing manager Richie Galway said, "We're not that worried to be honest and we are confident the meeting will go ahead.

"We've called the 8am inspection because of the adverse weather forecast, and because it could drop below freezing we thought it prudent to check. We haven't employed the frost covers, however.

"We've had clear skies all day today and it's been about 7C but that could plummet."

The first on a seven race card, featuring the Grade 3 Visit Punchestown.com Juvenile Hurdle, is set to get underway at 12.45pm.
