Punjabi suffers setback

Last season's Champion Hurdle hero Punjabi has suffered a setback in his preparation for the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle later this month.

Nicky Henderson's six-year-old is due to lock horns with last weekend's impressive Punchestown winner Solwhit at Gosforth Park on November 28 but Tony Stafford, racing manager to Punjabi's owner Raymond Tooth, says his participation is now in some doubt.

"There was a slight worry last week when he had to miss a piece of work," Stafford told www.wbxtriplecrown.com.

"With a horse with normal metabolism that might be nothing, in the case of Punjabi it is always significant.

"A clear path for the next 10 days will be crucial and Nicky Henderson will monitor his weekend work especially closely to make sure he is straight enough to compete with the likes of a hard-fit Solwhit."
