There was a Classic feel to the concluding St Patrick's Trail Ladies Bumper at Downpatrick today with victory going to the Neil McKnight trained Superior Quality in the colours of Was's groom Craig Bryson.

Ridden by Adrienne Foley, the son of Winged Love improved to lead over two furlongs out but was all out in the closing stages to hold the last gasp challenge of 13/8 favourite Ironmill Lad by half a length.

The 8/1 winner added to the other 'bookie benefit' winners of 9/1, 12/1, 25/1, 6/1, 14/1 & 7/1 on a dismal day for favourite backers.

Afterwards McKnight stated “we took our time with him and the rain helped. He kept going well and he'll probably go hurdling now.”

Winning owner Craig Bryson, from Poyntzpass, Co Down, rides out at Aidan O'Brien's yard and looks after Oaks winner Was and his father James Bryson later added “the Tipperary bumper turned into a sprint but we were expecting a good run from Superior Quality today.”
