Quatre Bras added to a victory for Jane Chapple-Hyam a couple of years ago when coming out best in an exciting finish to the Michael And Esther Cooney Memorial Handicap at Dundalk.

Just six went to post but there were five virtually in a line over a furlong out with Quatre Bras making headway to challenge towards the far side.

The Richard O’Brien-trained 17/2 chance kept on strongest in the closing stages under Andrew Slattery to score by half a length from No More Porter with Star Harbour the same distance further back in third.

Slattery said, "He won over seven (furlongs) at Kempton many moons ago now.

"The first day I rode him in Listowel (third), Richard told me to see if I could get him enjoying it and to run through the line. I came in kicking myself in Listowel that I didn't make more use of him.

“I've ridden him the last twice (today and Roscommon) and, in fairness, I asked the owners to give me another chance on him and they did, so it is great to pay them back.

"He's not devoid of pace and he travels well over that trip. It is great that he got his head in front today."
