Trainer Declan Queally completed a front-runners double in Naas’ curtailed six-race card today, as I’ll Sort That (9/4) continued the yard’s eye-catching progress in landing the William Hill Bumper, under his jockey son and namesake.

Prior to the running of the race and due to heavy rainfall, officials had announced the abandonment of the final two scheduled chases, on a card which had earlier seen Queally’s Bacchanalian front-run to land a Grade 3 hurdle.

Not to be deterred by worsening ground conditions, Queally junior boldly opted for similar forceful tactics on I’ll Sort That, who made all to beat Strong Link by 7.5 lengths.

Queally junior, often confused with his father, plays a pivotal part in the training operation and commented “conditions are very tough out there, but I had a good walk of the track beforehand and picked the ground I was going to take.

“I think his ideal ground would be yielding to soft, but he has the engine to cope with anything. You wouldn’t risk him on good ground.”

He added “David (Needham, owner) is a joy to train for and just lets you pick the races and make a plan. He’ll probably go back to Fairyhouse for a winners of three and then go out to grass. You’d be looking forward to him next year. He’s a lovely horse to have.”

‘Team Queally’ had previously gained big-race success with Rocky’s Diamond’s Grade 2 Galmoy Hurdle win at Gowran Park last month.
