Declan Queally registered a 1-2 in Cork’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Hurdle today as Tackletommywoowoo (7/2) won under the trainer’s son and namesake, defeating his shorter-priced stablemate St Lawrence’s Well (13/8f).

Recent bumper winner St Lawrence’s Well led the four-runner race until headed by Tackletommywoowoo at the third-last, with Declan Queally junior steering him to a comfortable 15 lengths success.

The winning jockey quipped “there was only a small entry for today’s race and both my syndicates wanted to run, so I left it up to Michael (Kenneally, on runner-up) to pick, as I knew I’d win on either! I said to my father that I’d win on both of them as I know them so well.

“Kevin (Sexton) has ridden Tackletommywoowoo every day other than both days he has won but, in fairness, it hasn’t been his fault. The recent Listowel race was a glorified six-furlong race as they absolutely hacked around, with 14 horses involved turning-in. He does need a bit of cover and when Kevin came back in, he said to forget the race. I told his owners to treat that race like a piece of work.

“It wasn’t the strongest race on paper and he did it nicely, so it worked out grand.”
