Quest For More claims Cadran glory George Baker delivered Quest For More with a perfectly-timed run to claim Group One glory in the Prix du Cadran at Chantilly. Having recently adopted front-running tactics to win the Lonsdale Cup at York and be beaten a nose in the Doncaster Cup, Quest For More was dropped out last by Baker this time but finished with a real flourish. The favourite Vazirabad looked to have timed it right when he went clear of Hughie Morrison's Nearly Caught in the closing stages, but the Roger Charlton-trained Quest For More powered home to edge it on the line. Baker, fresh from registering his first Classic success on Harbour Law in last month's St Leger at Doncaster, is renowned for being a patient jockey but he set his mount plenty to do. Nearly Caught set an honest tempo and while Vazirabad had stamina to prove, he benefitted from a waiting ride by Christophe Soumillon and made a bold bid for victory. However, he had no answer to Quest For More's late thrust, with the winner being cut across the board for the Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Champions Day (October 15). Baker said: "He's a special horse but didn't travel with his normal fluency today. I just let him find his feet and I knew he'd stay well, he's a model of consistency. "I must mention the job the staff at Beckhampton have done. "That was the bottom of the alphabet plan and Mr Charlton was probably throwing things at the TV, but he just was not going with the same fluency. "I know if that's the case with him, they are probably going too fast."
