Quinn Ponders Building Options

Character Building could bid to gain some compensation for an agonising near-miss at the Cheltenham Festival in either the Scottish or Irish Nationals next month.

John Quinn's grey came within three-quarters of a length of lifting the National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup at Prestbury Park and is reported to be none the worse for his exertions.

'I've put him in the Irish National and the Scottish National, but unless the ground was right and he was right then he wouldn't run,' Quinn warned.

'He's fine at the moment, but they are the only races he might run in now.

'Maybe the Scottish National is preferable, but if the ground went quick or I wasn't terribly happy with him then I might finish him for the season and keep him for next year.'

Quinn admits it was hard to see Character Building come so close to executing the perfect plan at Cheltenham, but he still has plenty to look forward to with the seven-year-old.

'It was a bit frustrating last time, but we're over it now,' he said.

'Next year we haven't really thought long and hard about just yet, but I suppose we'd look at some of the staying chases.'
