Radiant Beauty was the recipient of a fine front-running ride from James Doyle as she bounced back from Royal Ascot disappointment to secure Listed honours for the first time in Pontefract’s Weatherbys Pipalong Stakes.

James Owen’s five-year-old had won well under Doyle at Ascot on her penultimate start, but failed to replicate that performance in the Kensington Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting.

However, she showcased all of her quality during her visit to Yorkshire and having cut across the pack to lead from her wide draw in nine, showed plenty of tenacity at the finish to hold on by a neck at 9-2 from Ben Haslam’s Crystal Flyer in second and the fast-finishing favourite Arisaig in third.

It was Radiant Beauty’s fourth win in seven starts for Owen, who said: “It was fantastic to get black type with her and to win as well.

“She was good with James at Ascot when she won in May and made the running that day and it looked like she got an easy lead.

“However, last time at Royal Ascot she was drawn in the middle and then had to work to come across and it just didn’t work.

“The big occasion got to her a little bit then as well, but she was very well behaved today and even though she got taken on for the lead she did really well to battle it out.

“She’s a really strong filly and still developing. I think she’ll keep progressing as the season goes on and she will love a bit of autumn ground as well.”

Radiant Beauty could now do some travelling as her first win in stakes company has unlocked the door for what could be some exciting adventures later in the campaign.

“The aim today was to get black type and now that’s done we can go have some fun and chase some prize-money,” continued Owen.

“There’s no plan but she could do anything and is a horse we could travel with. I think France might suit her later in the season.”
