Rain the catalyst for a number of Irish gambles

The prospect of an ease in ground conditions at both Irish meetings this evening has probably influenced a number of market moves. Magical Moonlight is obviously expected to progress from her debut at Fairyhouse last month and has been well supported ahead of the opening Harvertech Maiden at Down Royal (5.10).

The Johnny Murtagh-trained juvenile was available at 14/1 but has been slashed to as low as 9/2 for this five-furlong sprint. Spanish Temptress has gained all her previous three wins on soft ground and is a popular order for the Ballyduane Stud Fillies Handicap at Limerick (5.50).

Richard O’Brien’s charge was as big as 100/30 overnight but is now generally just a 6/4 chance with 5lb claimer Keithen Kennedy booked on the topweight. Taj Crown is another well-backed favourite at Limerick and the daughter of New Bay, who was second in a claimer over course and distance last week, has been cut into 2/1 (from 3/1) for the McMahons Builders Providers Maiden (7.37).
