Rare Irish run a possibility for Power

Sole Power's destination this weekend depends entirely on whether the ground is quicker at Haydock or the Curragh.

Eddie Lynam's star sprinter is in the Betfred Temple Stakes at Haydock, a race he won in 2011 and was second in a year later, but he could stay at home for the Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes, which has been upgraded this year to Group Two status.

The star sprinter has not raced in Ireland for almost four years since finishing runner-up in the Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh in August 2011.

One thing in the Curragh's favour is that Richard Hughes, Sole Power's regular rider, will be in Ireland to partner Ivawood in the 2,000 Guineas.

His main early season aim is the King's Stand at Royal Ascot, a race he has won for the past two seasons.

Lynam told the Irish Times: "He'll go wherever the ground comes up OK for him.

"Basically it's all about the King's Stand with him, but like all of us as he's getting older he's getting heavier between his races so I'd like to get a run into him.

"If we get a win into him on the way to the Kings Stand, then great, but we're ultimately looking at Ascot.

"If the ground is OK I wouldn't mind running him at the Curragh and we know Richard Hughes will be there so there wouldn't be a problem in terms of a jockey. We'll simply have to see about ground."
