Rebel Budz one for the locals at Mallow Trained just a few miles outside Mallow in Ballyclough, Rebel Budz (5/2) was a well-received winner of the three-mile maiden hurdle at Cork. Trained for his father Thomas by Paul O'Flynn, the Malinas gelding was a point-to-point winner at Liscarroll last March and had finished second on hurdling debut at Thurles in November. He tracked front-runner Frankie's Freebie and headed that one after jumping three out, at which point uneasy 5/6 favourite Fillyoureye was already beaten.  The Malinas gelding went clear before the last to post a 14-length victory over Frankie's Freebie. Winning jockey Darragh O’Keeffe commented "We fancied him coming here. He’d a good run in Thurles, and I thought he was still a bit green when I let him down. The winner has come on and won since in Navan.  “If nobody went on, I was happy to make it as we had form over three miles.  “He jumped super up the straight and it’s great for the O’Flynns.  “I think he’s a nice horse and he always showed promise. He’s still a light-framed horse, but I think all the time they are giving him will stand to him going forward.”  Additional reporting by Alan Magee
