Rebel Fitz does it in fine style

Davy Russell and Rebel Fitz posted a comfortable victory in the extended two mile hurdle at Clonmel.

The duo hit the front two out from leader Bleakfield Lady and Russell didn’t need to get serious on the gelding trained by Michael Winters as they scored by a length-and-three-parts to justify even money favouritism.

Well-backed Mississippi River (7/2 to 5/2) kept on for second, but didn’t trouble the winner. There was a seven-and-a-half length gap back to Letter Of Credit (4/1) in third.

“He stayed well today. I’m delighted with him. He gets a bit worked up in the parade ring. I would like to let him off for a break, but Davy thinks I should keep him on the go. Chasing will be his game,” Successful trainer Michael Winters said.

Winters also passed on some news on his mare For Bill. He said: “She will go for the Munster National if it rains and the ground is soft.” The Munster National will be run at Limerick on Sunday October 9.
