Rebel Fitz excites on debut

Rebel Fitz justified all the pre-race chat in really good fashion in the concluding race on the penultimate day of the Listowel Festival, the John Fletcher Memorial Flat Race.

Backed from 7/1 this morning into 100/30, Mikey O'Connor was determined to go down the inside on the gamble but that ploy looked like it might end in failure when he got shuffled back a bit before the straight.

However once he got daylight in the straight the French-bred fairly flew, he led under a furlong out and he went on to see off Got Options by a length and a half.

Winning trainer Michael Winters said: "That was great and this horse is a super jumper. I said when he first arrived in the yard that he looked like Master Minded.

The owners are super people and they are going to have a lot of fun with this lad."
