Rebel Moon (11/4) was an appropriate winner of Naas’ featured Group 3 Al Shira'aa Racing Irish EBF Jannah Rose Stakes today in scoring for the race’s sponsor, while also adding further to trainer Joseph O’Brien’s recent impressive haul.

Al Shira'aa Racing-owned Rebel Moon had scored on Gowran debut in April and today returned under champion jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle. Initially held up in fourth-place of five runners, the Lope De Vega-filly quickened to challenge in the home straight and eventually got the better of race-fit Caught U Sleeping by a neck.

O’Brien, with five Royal Ascot winners last week, reported “we’re delighted with Rebel Moon. She did well to win on debut and the form has worked out well. We just had a little hold up with her after that race so we missed a little bit of time. This was an obvious target, given the ownership.

“It was a lovely ride from Dylan. She looked green in the race and I think there is a lot to come from her, hopefully.

“The leader (Caught U Sleeping) has good form, she probably got first-run on us and she’s obviously race-fit, whereas we missed time. It’s tough to run a horse ‘down’ here when they get away from you, and the fractions were steady enough through the race.”

O’Brien, whose other three-year-old fillies Thundering On and Johanna Walsh respectively won the English Oaks and finished second in last week’s Ribblesdale Stakes, added “I think Rebel Moon won from having a bit of class so, hopefully, we are still scratching the surface with her. She has some nice options in France as well as in Ireland.”
